THE
INFINITI Q45- With
the luxury car market getting more competitive every year, it's
no doubt that Infiniti would step up to the challenge. And we have
no doubt that us Yankees are happy to accept their entry. Every
time a car enters the market, its cutting edge. Its features, performance,
and looks are always better than the last. The cars usually stick
around for a decade or so, then get a huge makeover, and are reintroduced.
That's how it's been, that's how it will be. But no cars have seen
more "face-lifts" than the Q45. It seems like every year, the flagship
of Nissan's luxury fleet gets an update. From new headlights, to
a new grill, to revamped rear fascia, the car has changed more "here-and-there"
than any other car, and is overdue for a complete overhaul.
The
new Q45 is nothing short of a new car altogether. Minus the famed
analog clock and distinctive front badging, it's hard to tell that
this beaute has ancestry dating back all the way to 1989.
The
new sedan has a low and aggressive nose, lead by a dramatic chrome
grill.
The larger, more evident headlamps seem to sweep right into the
cars already flowing lines. The new lights are seven-lens high-intensity
discharge lamps, they're nearly twice as bright as the lamps on
the old Q45, and can be aimed by a switch on the instrument panel.
And get this; they can be aimed by a switch on the instrument panel.
Turn signals on the (heated) rear view mirrors, and gleaming chrome
door handles improve the car's sport-like profile, and dramatic
trunk lines give this car a truly unique look.

The
sedan's performance is textbook Infiniti.
More than ample power, steady feel, and solid shifts via the 5 speed
automatic remind the driver this car does more than pamper. The
4.5-litre, DOHC V-8 produces 340 horses, more than enough to pull
this 3,800-pound chariot. Steering is tight and responsive, and
ABS brakes halt the car very steadily and quickly. With a zero to
60 time of 5.9 seconds, and more torque than you'll know what to
do with, the Q45 quietly hurdles you through the winding roads this
car was designed for. There's little more than minor details to
complain about with the third-generation Q45. The car is certainly
back on the track Infiniti tried to lay out more than a decade ago.
It's a vehicle that now deserves to be on the shopping list of those
seeking a top-line sedan. Gentlemen start your engines. Its time
to get your adrenaline going by the one and only Q45.
Stepping
into this car is no surprise. Plush leather, wood trim, chrome
highlights, and all the usuals scream luxury. A chrome-framed cassette
player sits right under the aforementioned clock, which sits right
under a dramatic 7-inch LCD screen. The LCD monitor, which is full
color, controls the glove-box mounted CD changer, climate control,
and 300-watt Bose audio and navigation systems. Shift into reverse,
and it displays an unimpeded view from the rear of the car. An optional
Voice Recognition System featuring Visteon Voice Technology completes
the package. Seating is extremely comfortable, with plenty of lateral
support for those who'll be putting this car through its paces.
There's more then enough head and legroom, front and back.
Well
Infiniti has done a fine job here.
This one will give the Mercedes "S" class a run for the
money. This performance luxury sedan will be a head turner as well
as a tire burner. As we have always noticed about the Infinity Q,
it is a "quiet giant". This machine will most certainly
be a top performer in its class. As we have rave results on all
the previous Q45's. This one is supposed to even have more power
to the wheels. Move aside "big boys"! The power statement
is about to hit the streets. And we don't think you will be disappointed.
